The Haunted House - A 'Roll to Dodge' Forum Game
« on: June 03, 2015, 11:12:07 PM »
Hey everyone,

since I have a lot of time to sit at my netbook and tablet being active in different forums, I decided to start a forum game that I'm participating in, in another forum.
The game is directly transferred and the main setting is not made by myself.
Nevertheless, I invented my own story, so everything that happens is made up by me.
I don't know if a lot of people will participate here, since the forum is not very active, but maybe you'll have just as much fun as I have in the original game.
The game is designed for players to join at every time they want, even if it already started a while ago.
I hope that this game helps to improve the awesome community even more!
Here is the original game, feel free to join me there:
http://us.battle.net/hearthstone/en/forum/topic/17767788280
You will see, its setting is the exact same and I just transferred it.

Before you start, the whole game is set in in a "Warcraft Universe-like" world, so please stick to the general atmosphere, this means no modern or futuristic weapons and plans.
You can, but you don't need to stick to existing things in the Warcraft Universe, its much more fun if you create your own heroes!
Although your enemies can and will be based or related to creatures there.
If something doesnt fit, I will respond in a way that shows you that your action is not appropriate.
;)

Here we go:

You are a brave adventurer who has overheard rumor of glorious treasures hidden inside a gigantic haunted house at the edge of Wolfpine village. There are ghosts, ghouls, zombies, traps and all sorts of obstacles in your way, but you laugh at the challenge. Your goal is to brave the haunted house, locate precious artifacts and gold, and escape with as much as you possibly can. With more adventurers pouring in, it's only a matter of time until the place is stripped dry of anything worthwhile, so grab sword and spell and test your luck. With the full moon rising above the treetops, you decide how you want to make your entrance.

Original rules: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Roleplay/RollToDodge?from=Main.RollToDodge

I will typically wait until multiple people have posted before giving responses to your actions, although if there are no other responses besides 1-3, I will answer anyway.

The house is sitting on a hill. Whether you wish to enter from the front door, the windows, the garden or through any other method you can think of, you may - I will roll a die to determine how successful you are, but be prepared to make friends with the spirit healer, as adventurers blinded by the promise of treasure tend to make lots of fumbles.

You come up to the house. How do you enter?

Don't worry boys, I'll lead the way on this epic adventure.

I choose the front door!

Don't worry boys, I'll lead the way on this epic adventure.

I choose the front door!

As you approach the front door, it magicly opens itself just like you have seen it in old horror movies.
Being a mighty adventurer who decided that armor, weapons or spells are overrated, this is certainly not very impressive to you.
You step in trough the front door without hesitation and just as you got one foot in the big main hall, you realize what seems like old runes underneath you starting to glow.
Before you can even react, a big flame shoots out of the ground frying you to a crisp in seconds.
You wake up at the village inn in front of the spirit healer, who tells you that you have died and wishes you good luck for your next attempt.

I shall enter from the garden! Maybe I won't run into Battles  ;)
You enter the big garden which is also surrounding the house from the left and the right side, after a long walk up the hill, to start your treasure hunt.
As you step into the garden trough a big open metal gate, you find yourself in what seems to be a graveyard.
The graves seem to be in a very bad condition and it looks like something has messed them up just recently.
There is also an old tomb made of stone with weird looking faces worked into it on the far left and a small wooden shed on the right side.
However, even if the garden seems like an interesting place you can also choose to just get closer to the main house.

I'll travel on my trusty steed back to the haunted house. Instead of the front door this time I'll try a more evasive route and attempt to squeeze my fat ass down the chimney.

After watching two shady figures approach the house (one soon after being burned to death quite dreadfully I would later find out) I tie my noble steed to a nearby tree, secure my trusty dagger, and attempt to formulate a plan of approach then stop remembering that "formulating" is difficult I do what comes natural to one such as I at a time like this I take a moment to do some light stretches then taking off at a sprint I take a running jump at the nearest window in an attempt to smash through it with my chiseled manly adventurer face.

I'll travel on my trusty steed back to the haunted house. Instead of the front door this time I'll try a more evasive route and attempt to squeeze my fat ass down the chimney.

Arriving in the front yard of the house, you start looking for a way to get on top of the house to get into the chimney, santa claus style.
To your right, you can see a pipe coming down the wall. It seems like its connected to the gutter of the house.
There is also a pile of wood to the left just next to the door which could be high enough to reach a window on the second floor but this wouldnt get you to the chimney.
Suddenly while you were deciding about your next step, you see another adventurer running towards one of the windows of the first floor with an expression on his face that shows you that he is really serious about his plan.
Not even being able to see his face properly, the only thing you hear seconds later is a window getting smashed in and something that sounds like the adventurer ran against a wooden wall.
You tie your horse to a tree close to the opened main gate of the yard in front of the house and start stretching your muscles in preparation for a sprint into one of the windows.
With your muscles stretched and your dagger secured, you start sprinting trough the main gate straight towards a window next to a pile of wood and while doing so, you realize the adventurer who took the front door ealier looking at you in disbelieve, but because you are running so fast you smash into the window just a second later.
Still having way to much speed you collide with a wall in the room behind the window.
You wake up at the village inn in front of the spirit healer, who tells you that the collision with the wall unfortunately broke your neck and wishes you good luck for your next attempt.
But hey, while you ran towards the wall, you could at least see that the room was something like a kitchen and now that the window is broken, you can just climp in.

After thanking the spirit healer profusely I decide to replace my second dagger having left it buried deep in the back of some stupid paladin in gold armor. GOLDEN ARMOR!!! Who wears something like that??? Your basically asking any rogue worth his salt to stab you repeatedly like the self righteous twit you are!! Taking a deep breath I refocus on the task at hand, after purchasing a generic dagger from the local blacksmith I set off toward the manor once more. Upon arriving I wave a greeting toward that shady fellow on the roof who appears to be struggling to get his fat-ass down the chimney. Then walking over to the window with a perfect adventurer shaped hole in it I stop and ponder for a moment remembering a past mishap I grab a chunk of wood from the nearby pile and throw it rather violently through the window left of mine fully expecting it to trigger a trap of some sort when nothing overtly malicious happens I hop into the window I had previously introduced my face too seeing a rather sparse kitchen with a fetching indent of some handsome soul on the far wall I check the cabinet and decide to help myself to a half loaf of bread, a rogue must eat after all and this house has been abandoned for a long while so I know I am not stealing some families last bit of food. I justify it as revenge against the house it has killed me once already after all "Take that!!" I declare "You take my life well then I..shall take your bread!! Muahahah!! have at you!!!" I take a large bite of the bread then rear my leg back and deliver an ill thought out kick to the wall which causes me to stub my toe as I hop around on one foot cursing the house a small part of me feels it was totally worth it.

Though I hesitate a few minutes and ponder the mysteries inside the house, I can't help but explore the wooden shed. (If something gets me, all my Dayz humanity goes to Skynet and Bloody).

I am going to do my damnedest to not meta-game, Travis!

Equipped with only a shortsword, small crossbow, and sundry adventuring supplies in a small pack, I search for a window that is accessible from the outside of the structure on the ground floor. Were I to find one, I would do what I could to secure this window behind me.
Home is the sailor, home from the sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.

You thank the spirit healer for reviving you and buy another dagger, after having your last one buried deep in the back of some paladin with golden armor.
You are sure, this guy was only wearing it for showing how mighty he is to everyone in the whole town, but not anymore!
After dealing with this jerk and equiped with an awesome new generic dagger, you return to the house, seeing that the adventurer with the fat ass is still standing at the same spot where he was standing when you jumped into the window.
However, you don't allow yourself to get distracted and take one piece of wood to throw it into a window next to yours, when nothing happens.
Thinking that it is actually kind of sad not to get the satisfaction of triggering a trap with your piece of wood, you slowly climp into the window, which is very easy now that you already got a perfect man-siced hole in it, finding yourself in the kitchen with your twisted and smashed body laying in front of the wall at the other end.
As there seems to be nothing special on first sight, you start checking the cabinets first fully expecting to find dust and some webs and nothing else.
But whats that? A good piece of bread? Actually, thats not too bad as you are pretty hungry from your previous sprint and still haven't regained all your power after being revived.
After satisfying yourself by laughing at the house and kicking against the wall with your foot, hurting your toe it it's now up to you if you want to check out the rest of the kitchen, as there are several cabinets, shelfs and draws left, or if you want to take one of the doors to go into another part of the house, but be aware, the house is by no means abandoned and you might also find some of its previous owners on your journey.
There is a door on the left side, which could lead into the room with the window you threw the piece of wood into, one door just next to your smashed body and one door on the right side of the ktichen.
Though I hesitate a few minutes and ponder the mysteries inside the house, I can't help but explore the wooden shed. (If something gets me, all my Dayz humanity goes to Skynet and Bloody).
Standing in the middle of the graveyard, you ponder if it is already time to check out the main house or if you want to check the surroundings first.
You can't see any good entrance into the house from where you are standing now because some trees and bushes are blocking the direct view, so you decide to start "small" and head to the shed on the right side.
On your way to the shed, you try to read the names on the gravestones but it seems like the weather has already made most of them unreadable, however you come across one which seems to be in a pretty good condition.
Here rests Kha'thun, beloved husband, father, friend and extraordinary magician.
The rest of it has too many breaks in it, so you are not sure what to think about this yet, as the only words you could read after the first sentence were evil always remember.
Still thinking about the words on the gravestone, you arrive in front of the shed just to find that the door is locked from the outside and has a wooden sign hanging on it.
Don't open!
Great..., who writes a sign saying "Don't open" but locks the door from the outside, thats really smart...
It's now up to you if you want to find out why someone doesn't want people to enter the shed or maybe doesn't want something to leave it.

(Guess there is too much rng for meta-gaming here Del, however good luck trying!)
After hearing about other adventurers who started looting the house, or at least tried, you decide that you can't just pass on this chance of finding some nice treasures.
After setting yourself up, you travel to the house and start looking for a window on the ground floor, easy enough to defend against anything that comes and just as you enter the front yard, you already see two windows with broken glass to your left, next to the front door and a pile of wood, leading up to a window on the second floor. One of them looks like some crazy man tried to jump into it or maybe tried to escape the house, but you don't really want to know, so you decide to go for the far left one with more natural looking broken glass.
While walking towards the window, you realize that there is a person standing in front of a pipe leading up to the gutter and the roof but getting no response after waving to him, you just continue your plan and climp carefully trough the window.
You find yourself in what seems like a dining room when you suddenly hear something hitting against wood in the room next to you.
Frightened by the fact that this sounded like there must be something just behind the door leading into the room with the noise, you can now decide if you want to check it out immediately or if you want to search and secure the dining room first.
There is a really big table which fits at least 20 persons around it, which is to your surprise, fully prepared with everything you would need for a big dinner.
There is a lot of silver cutlery, golden candlesticks and plates made of marmor which for sure would be worth some money, however it would take you a while to collect everything and its for sure not the greatest loot in the house.
There are also some medieval swords hanging at the right and the left wall and one big bear head hanging at the wall straight in front of you.
You could also just leave trough one of the other two doors located to your right and next to the bear head.
The choice is yours.

Glancing back to the door with every other step, I make my way around the room slowly to inspect the hanging swords and bear head. I have my shortsword drawn all the while. I am particularly interested in looking for any sign of value adorning the weapons or finding something curious hidden inside the bear's mouth or even on top of his head. I do my best not to touch anything aside from the floor.

I slowly walk around the back of the shed to see if there is another entrance. There is not. I put my ear up to the shed to see if I can hear any movement...silence. Determined now to find out the mysteries of that old shed, I head back around quietly to the door of the shed. I take a hair pin from hair and gingerly work the lock.
