The trouble With PVE
« on: April 04, 2017, 06:04:06 PM »
I've been kind of bouncing around servers recently checking out maps and stuff and have spoken to a few players I have met on the way. Of course I make it a point to recommend Beatniks servers to those I meet. Surprisingly, a lot of these people have a habit of playing solo or near solo in servers that have very low population of regular players.  One has to wonder why.  It turns out to be one particular complaint I keep hearing that is apparently the reason for it.

It seems that these players are indeed interested in playing PVE, and would make excellent Beatnik material, but they tend to shy away from most servers with larger populations, because they say, they are constantly bombarded with other players trying to give them free stuff. I have heard this complaint over and over and can understand their point.

At first, having another player gear you up seems like a good deal, but it just doesn't foster the sense of achievement one would have earning the stuff themselves. Many players find this very off-putting, and say they feel it would be impolite to refuse the gifts even if it spoils their game for them. Their solution is to not come back to the server.

That being said, I would like to make a request of our players and staff to please, please not give any players free loot or gear. Please do not mark mission loot "free for the taking" and please do not give away guns, gold, building mats, etc or anything of this nature at all. If you see a player doing it, please do remind them of this.  Lets all allow the players the fun of "unlocking these achievements" on their own. I can't help but think the server and players will be that much better for it.

Thanks all,

Sandman

Copy that, Sandman. I think it's worth mentioning that this isn't to say people can't ask for a spare magazine or blood bag, simply to preserve the spirit of the game as DayZ was intended.

Ok here's what I think. If you are doing a mission or running with someone, and ai are camping their body, then hell yeah, give them your extra gun and ammo to complete the job. If your buddy is dying, then again, hell yeah, give him the medicine to save him. Sandman is referring to our good nature sometimes ruining the beginning exploration experience for new players because we, as Beatniks like to be nice and help.  We never considered this (us regulars) before but now that Sandman explained it to me, I can see how it would give players too much, too soon and increase the chances that they won't stay long term. Beatniks is a long term server, so the point is to recruit new players for the long haul.

And Beik, you are NOT an asshole, unless you don't come see me.

See you in the game,

Hippi
